Young or old, hiking a glacier is often on the “travel bucket list” for those travelling this big planet of ours. On the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand, along with stunning alpine peaks and lush native forests, you will find some of the most accessible glaciers around. It is here that travellers and kiwis alike, come to tick this amazing experience off their wish list.
The experience is such a unique one it creates memories to last a lifetime. Chris from Backpacker Banter was recently on Franz Josef Glacier to do a heli hike and here in his blog he spills the beans on his experience and shares how he made the decision on which glacier trip to take. With a Travel Bucket List that includes cage diving with sharks, drinking mint tea in Morocco and partying at the Rio Carnival, Chris is an intrepid traveller for sure. It was great to hear he rated this trip as one of his best experiences in New Zealand.
