Franz Josef Glacier Guides provides a pair of high quality 10-point crampons for all hikers on the glacier.  Crampons are like a small snowshoe that attach to hiking boots.  Crampons have spikes on the bottom that give purchase on the ice.

Don’t worry, you don’t need to be Sir Edmund Hillary to wear crampons.  We'll show you how to fit the crampons over your boots and how to walk in them.  The only thing you’ll need is a moderate level of fitness (if you’re fit enough to walk over uneven terrain for a few hours, you’ll be fine).

It won’t take long to get used to walking with crampons.  With a pair of these babies attached, you'll be walking confidently in the ice steps cut by your guide in no time.
